Job Overview

Are you an idea generator and an expert in offshore geophysics? Are you passionate about 4D seismic, rock physics and the exciting North Sea energy industry? Working with our UK non-operated asset manager and the exploration manager, you will have a rare opportunity to join a dynamic multi-disciplinary team and deliver successful and cost-effective operator technical assurance. You will bring your positive attitude and analytical skills to maintain and develop our joint venture (JV) business through independent technical verification. Key Accountabilities

  • Interpret and map seismic and other geophysical data to influence operator and support business decisions in areas such as: prospect generation, technical risk assessment, ranking and location of development wells, field evaluations, seismic acquisition and processing programs and 4D feasibilities
  • Monitor and review 4D programs and partner operated drilling programs
  • Provide geological and/or geophysical interpretations and data to support creation and quality control of geomodels for reservoir simulation
  • Represent company in meetings with co-venturers, contractors and regulatory bodies
  • Deliver presentations to peers and external partners
  • Share input in peer assist and peer review meetings
  • Support business development through data room and exploration reviews
  • Provide ideas to new ventures and exploration evaluations as required
  • Solve geophysical problems and optimize production from partner operated fields by interfacing, influencing and aligning with our joint venture partners
  • Document project work, maintain project and corporate databases and records archives

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education

  • Experience in the upstream cycle from frontier exploration and prospect generation through to field appraisal, development and rehabilitation
  • Post-secondary degree in geoscience or at least ten years’ experience working as a geophysicist in an oil and gas or service company
  • Prior offshore development and exploration experience is an asset

Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of geological risk assessment and general economic principles
  • Strong computer literacy in Microsoft Office
  • Up to date knowledge of seismic interpretation and mapping applications. Preference for Petrel
  • Highly self-motivated teammate with excellent business understanding and social, communication, and presentation skills
  • Well organized and demonstrated ability to lead multiple and changing priorities under tight deadlines with strong decision-making skills
  • Experience collaborating with internal teams and external JV partners is highly attractive

Working Conditions

  • This position is a permanent full-time position based in Aberdeen and requires flexibility for occasional monthly travel to represent Suncor at JV technical meetings with partners in London
