Advisor, Environment and Regulatory Controls

Job Overview

Reporting to the manager, central environment and regulatory controls, you will support the implementation, sustainment and governance of our legal requirements and commitments for the operational excellence management system (OEMS) across our organization.

Key Accountabilities

  • Present, inform and guide internal groups on our regulatory assurance program’s processes and tools
  • Help identify and assess the applicability of legal and other requirements for the respective operation
  • Help and guide the translation of legal and other requirements into compliance tasks that will be executed by internal groups  to achieve consistent and sustained compliance
  • Support corporate and business area initiatives that relate to environmental and regulatory matters
  • Synthesize large amounts of technical information and translate them to internal stakeholders to ensure clarity, value and accountabilities are understood
  • Build positive, collaborative relationships across the organization

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • Five or more years of experience, preferably within the oil and gas or mining industry
  • Two or more years of experience working with provincial and federal regulatory acts and legislations is preferred
  • Experience working in a regulatory environment and/or as a paralegal would be an asset
  • Bachelor degree in law, business, science, engineering or other related field is preferred
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong communication and facilitation skills
  • Advanced understanding of Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge of how operating businesses function and how operational controls are used to manage work processes is an asset
  • You have the ability to work  and build relationships in a cross-functional environment while using non-authoritative leadership skills to help influence outcomes
  • You are able to use independent judgment and analytical skills to resolve problems effectively
  • You collaborate with others in order to achieve the best results and deliver the most value

  • This position is based on the Suncor Energy Centre in Calgary, AB
