Crude Risk Analyst

You will use your expertise to:

  • Validate forward price curves and pricing analysis, ensuring data integrity and accuracy
  • Monitor and report the profit/loss and positions for the financial trading strategies
  • Ensure a strong control environment within Suncor’s trading groups, particularly trading limits (VaR, term, fixed price)
  • Work closely with back office accounting staff for month end settlements
  • Gain an in-depth understanding of the governance structure used within Suncor to manage the risk of commodity trading activity
  • Assist in the implementation of processes and reporting requirements to meet Dodd-Frank and EMIR derivative regulations
  • Other ad hoc analysis and projects as required
  • Work primarily on Crude Oil portfolios, but may also gain exposure to Condensate and Oil Products portfolios

Must-haves  (minimum requirements):

  • Minimum of one year related work experience
  • Bachelor degree in Commerce, Economics, Finance, Engineering, or  Mathematics
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (complex formulae and VBA is preferred )
  • Ability to analyze complex sets of data, and problem solve independently

Preference for:

  • Risk Management experience in the areas of crude oil, natural gas or power
  • Individuals actively pursuing their Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation
  • Demonstration of a high level of intellectual curiosity for understanding markets, finance, and commerce.
  • Ability to function and focus on detailed tasks in a noisy environment
  • Detail oriented - ability to demonstrate a high degree of accuracy in your work
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
  • Flexibility in work hours required as a U.S. based holiday calendar is followed
