Job Overview

Reporting to the manager, trading performance, you will be responsible for providing near-term market intelligence and fundamental analysis across both local and global regions to promote trading strategies. Duties also include monitoring inventory, trade book exposures and P&L to facilitate trading execution, market risk management, management reporting and compliance.

Key Accountabilities

  • Conduct supply and demand analysis to generate trade strategies and identify market and pricing trends
  • Design, develop and support short-term data and trading tools
  • Utilize advanced modeling techniques to determine the relationship between energy market variables
  • Assist in the development of the team’s short term outlooks, including global and regional changes in production rate, capacity levels, tankage and infrastructure
  • Support the team in identifying, evaluating and modeling optimization opportunities related to pricing, forecasting, transportation and other commercial terms
  • Aid in the development, training and mentorship of colleagues in the team
  • Providing timely valuations of physical and financial trading book positions, exposures and P&L to facilitate trading execution, market risk management, management reporting and compliance
  • Complete value-add analysis of trading strategies
  • Monitor and manage inventory within the CTRM
  • Maintain and manage tracking of all commercial terms associated with trading books, particularly costs
  • Take initiative to continuously improve existing processes, tools and models with the aim of improving overall performance and reliability

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • Seven or more years of experience in a commodity based trading environment
  • University degree in business, finance, accounting, engineering or a related field

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required
  • Knowledge of data mining, modeling and data analysis using excel and VBA is an asset
  • Familiarity and experience with CTRMs a plus; particularly Commodity XL
  • Basic knowledge of North America physical crude oil markets and logistics is an asset
  • Knowledge of financial and physical trading instruments such as forwards, futures, swaps and options an asset
  • A proven ability to quickly build and maintain positive, effective relationships across all levels in an organization
  • Exceptional thoroughness and accuracy through attentiveness to detail
