Analyst, Crude Risk

Job Overview

Reporting to the team leader, crude risk, you will work within a highly motivated and professional team responsible for overseeing the day-to-day commodity trading activities of the supply and trading function. You will sit on the trading floor, and will experience the fast paced, dynamic environment where multi-million dollar energy contracts are bought and sold on the markets every single day.

Key Accountabilities

  • Validating forward price curves and pricing analysis, ensuring data integrity and accuracy
  • Monitor and report the profit/loss and positions for the financial trading strategies
  • Ensure a strong control environment within Suncor’s trading groups, particularly trading limits (VaR, term, fixed price)
  • Work closely with back office accounting staff for month end settlements
  • Gain an in-depth understanding of the governance structure used within Suncor to manage the risk of commodity trading activity
  • Assist in the implementation of processes and reporting requirements to meet Dodd-Frank  and EMIR derivative regulations
  • Other ad hoc analysis and projects as required

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • Previous risk management experience in the areas of crude oil, natural gas or power is preferred
  • Bachelor Degree in Commerce, Economics, Finance, Engineering, or Mathematics
  • Preference will be given to individuals actively pursuing their Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (complex formulae, VBA preferred )
  • Demonstrate a high level of intellectual curiosity for understanding markets, finance, and commerce
  • Ability to analyze complex sets of data, and problem solve independently
  • Ability to function and focus on detailed tasks in a noisy environment
  • Detail oriented with a high degree of accuracy in their work
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
