Autonomous Haul Systems Data Analytics Team Lead

Are you passionate about joining a team where you can be responsible for helping to own the stand-up of Suncor’s Autonomous Haulage System (AHS) portfolio? As a member of the AHS technical team and working with the manager of AHS Technical, you will lead a small team in the development of the AHS data and analytics Centre of Excellence for Suncor and influence changes within the AHS operation through the insights found within the data. You will be a part of leading this shift in our mining operations from conventional to AHS for all of Suncor.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Manage a team of Data Analytics Engineers that will provide performance analysis and data interrogation of Modular and FrontRunner data
  • Analyze the relationships and trends of the data
  • Develop key performance indicators and targets for AHS
  • Standardize overall data management and structure for AHS operating areas
  • Develop standard reports, stewardship, benchmarking and tools
  • Support development of site specific reports and tools
  • Build and deliver standardized data onboarding for various teams across the AHS operation
  • Collaborate with the AHS implementation teams and mine reporting peers
  • Collaborate with both the analytic organization and business owners to turn data into actionable business insights
  • Explore conceptual design options and data solutions using various data analytical tools to creatively meet business needs
  • Support the development of operational system competency and facilitate competency transfer to balance of operations peers
  • Collaborate with functional peers (i.e. mine operations, maintenance, technical, technology, environmental health and safety) to drive business results

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Eight years of analytics experience within the mining field
  • A Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mathematics, or science
  • Experience as a leader within the industry, with strong leadership abilities in the technical field
  • A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills with a continuous improvement mindset
  • Strong collaboration skills in order to achieve the best results and deliver the most value
  • The ability to navigate multiple requests, prioritize, and you are process driven
  • Alignment with our values of: safety above all else, respect, raise the bar, commitments matter and do the right thing

Preference for:

  • Experience working in a start-up mining operation, a multi-functional role or new technology deploymentAPEGA professional engineering designation
  • Knowledge of mining dispatch systems, SQL report building and database management, and support applications
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis and modeling with experience u sing software such as R, MySQL, Python
  • Knowledge of data technologies like Hadoop or Hive

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
