Production Engineering Student

We will help you develop your professional skills and establish relationships with internal partners.  You will be jointly responsible to support key initiatives to harness the use of instrumentation data to guide well management decisions and to reduce production loss.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Support, compile and analyze the variable frequency drive information with the purpose of finding leading metrics that will allow us to identify issues with the electrical submersible pump performance and to minimize the number of well trips along with extending the life of the pump
  • Review the operating strategies and provide analysis on the impacts on production and energy efficiency
  • Provide in-depth analysis of operating data to recommend optimal operating envelopes
  • Support the projects that are in an effort to build the right digital tools to improve well availability and maximize production

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Experience with automation and surveillance by exception techniques
  • Current enrollment in a formal co-op or internship program in 3rd or 4th year formal actuarial science, statistics or data science co-op or internship program at an accredited post-secondary institution, and returning to full-time studies after the work term

Preference for:

  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
  • Broad understanding of time series analysis, regression analysis and empirical modelling
  • Ability to expect accountability: you hold co-workers accountable and expect them to do the same
  • Previous experience with data analytics within the oil and gas industry is preferred
  • Strong collaboration skills that enables you to build strong, positive relationships with diverse groups
  • A continuous improvement mindset and are able to seek greater knowledge and understanding of the systems, process and hazards in the workplace

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • This is an 8 month work term, from May 2019 – December 2020
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
