Working in the rotating equipment category, you will lead and coordinate the development and implementation of commercial strategies, focusing on long-term development in the groups and demonstrating creative solutions.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Identify and investigate leading market developments relevant to rotating equipment (Gas Turbines, Wind Turbines, Compressors and Pumps etc.), assess fit for Suncor, and develop plans for piloting new and creative solutions
  • Develop the go-to market strategy, bid evaluation and selection criteria for all levels of complexity, integrating market intelligence from historical supplier performance and contract compliance information
  • Lead the evaluation of and develop recommendations for the commercial structures of high risk/high complexity contracts, working with contracts specialists within their category
  • Validate the effectiveness of all existing commercial strategies and make recommendations to refresh or rebuild them in order to align with strategic objectives
  • Lead the Request for Proposal (RFP) process and proposal evaluations and handle the full scope of projects and negotiations, routinely taking a lead role in strategic or complex negotiations authoritatively on behalf of the company
  • Facilitate the Supplier Performance Management (SPM) process and close-out of any action items to ensure that commercial and business requirements are met and performance issues are addressed in a timely fashion, at the senior leadership level and manage contract performance issues

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • 12 years of directly related professional experience and/or a combination of commercial and technical work experience
  • A post-secondary education in Business or a relevant field
  • Advanced commercial negotiation skills, business development, deal structuring, economic analysis, and corporate finance knowledge; you collaborate and influence business area managers or peers on strategic issues
  • The demonstrated ability to recognize differing perspectives that will affect the business unit and corporate wide outcomes, and the capability to develop options and deal structures to advance our objectives
  • A deep understanding of contracting and commercial concepts and processes, coupled with strong negotiation skills and the dexterity to lead complex commercial negotiations
  • The ability to build trust and respectful relationships with suppliers while collaborating on opportunities and managing performance
  • Extraordinary communication skills both verbal and written with the sufficiency to adapt to different audiences, including effectively presenting commercial concepts clearly and concisely to senior leaders
  • Alignment with our values of: safety above all else, respect, raise the bar, commitments matter and do the right thing

Preference for:

  • An MBA and/or other recognized professional designations and training (SCMP, PMP, P.Eng., Lean, Six-Sigma, etc.); oil and gas industry experience

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
  • Travel may be required to Suncor site locations within Canada and the U.S. and supplier locations (domestic or international) on an infrequent basis
