Commercial Advisor

In this role, you will participate in opportunity screening, advance business development projects, support or lead negotiations, manage contracts actively, seek resolutions to disputes, and protect Suncor’s commercial interests in joint ventures.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Advance commercial initiatives related to Suncor’s upstream assets
  • Lead the commercial scope of regional development (Oil Sands) projects over $100 MM
  • Originate and evaluate business development opportunities
  • Negotiate contracts and joint venture agreements
  • Manage conflicts between Suncor and contractual counterparties or partners
  • Execute existing upstream business development opportunities such as asset acquisition and divestiture opportunities
  • Support technology development by putting in place the commercial agreements necessary to collaborate with technology partners
  • Coordinate the economic evaluation of regional development projects
  • Manage and improve the commercial agreements governing upstream assets
  • Collaborate within multidisciplinary project teams

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Five or more years of experience within the energy sector
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, engineering, law or a related discipline
  • Broad knowledge of the oil and gas industry
  • Track record of positively influencing business objectives, conflicts, internal, and external stakeholders;
  • Advanced financial modeling skills
  • Proven ability to solve complex problems and deploy strategic thinking
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate within a large team
  • Results oriented and able to drive both execution and accountability
  • Alignment with our values: safety above all else, stronger together, operational discipline, curiosity and lifelong learning, and act with integrity

Preference For:

  • Completion of a CFA, MBA, or CPA

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W. combined with remote work arrangements in response to COVID-19
  • Hours of work are typically a 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with some additional hours required occasionally to meet critical deadlines or schedules
  • Occasional travel on an infrequent basis to Fort McMurray
  • After hours coverage may be required
