Construction Technology Project Lead

Do you want to be a part of the execution and building of Suncor’s safety and productivity technology (SPT) organization and lead the implementation of new technology on Suncor’s construction projects?

This role will perform the front-end planning of the technology implementation on projects, progressing to site execution and operations with an estimated focus to encompass 60% project management, 20% construction, 20% technology.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Lead the full integration of the SPT scope into the integrated project team including all project management activities
  • Responsible for managing stakeholders associated with the technology implementations
  • Interface with project teams, including digital and enterprise technical to develop scoping and planning activities, source technology and ensure successful implementation
  • Support overall project performance though the use of actual workforce data
  • Facilitate project execution phase including set up of  site based processes and infrastructure to achieve the technology go-live milestone
  • Develop and roll out of the SPT framework and execution plans
  • Define the critical metrics and requirements for a construction safety technology with a "man-down" location device to measure program success
  • Support the development of SPT standards, guidelines and processes to implement and execute the SPT in accordance with to asset development and execution model (ADEM)
  • Support development and improvement opportunities

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Minimum five years of experience in oil and gas industry
  • Four or more years of experience in project management, information management, technology and/or construction
  • Post-secondary degree, preferably in engineering or technology systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, Project, SharePoint) and SAP
  • Leadership skills are critical with ability to self-execute scope to meet timelines
  • Alignment with our values of: safety above all else, respect, raise the bar, commitments matter and do the right thing

Preference for:

  • Experience leading projects and a team of individual contributors
  • Previous experience with safety or productivity technology applications in construction
  • Knowledge of oil and gas plants, equipment and facilities and site construction practices
  • Knowledge of Power BI and Primavera P6
  • Experience in workface planning
  • Strong business insight with ability to form relationships and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, manage conflict and facilitate decision making processes to optimize outcomes
  • Strong interpersonal skills including active listening, communicating and conflict resolution
  • Adaptive work style with an ability to handle multiple priorities, challenging demands and function positively in a dynamic work environment

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
  • This position requires short term (4 to 5 months) site placement on a fly-in, fly-out rotation (4 days on, 3 days off)
  • Must possess valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
