Corporate Finance Specialist

You will use your expertise to:

  • Provide innovative corporate finance strategy development to support balance sheet strength and companywide strategic initiatives
  • Act as a technical corporate finance expert for functions and business units, providing advice on financial implications, risks, and alternative options
  • Lead capital markets activities (debt financing, revolving credit facilities, share buybacks, etc.)
  • Influence the thinking and decisions of senior leaders; informally mentor junior team member
  • Manage day-to-day ad hoc requests related to Corporate Finance
  • Assess potential acquisitions and divestitures for Treasury implications
  • Build and maintain relationships with external partners, including rating agencies, debt investors, and banking partners

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Ten years of experience in Finance and/or Strategy roles
  • A Bachelor’s degree, with a preference for Finance, Accounting, or Economics
  • A strong work initiative, high energy level and the ability to work with ambiguity, unguided tasks, unusual issues, and develop creative solutions
  • Ability to perform business and economic analysis and synthesize financial and qualitative information from multiple sources into a cohesive message to provide strategic financial input and shape potential courses of action
  • A self-directed mindset with the ability to proceed with minimal guidance to generate ideas independently, coupled with strong business judgment to determine strategic objectives and identify opportunities with a proven ability to also anticipate potential problems
  • Big picture strategic vision, yet strong attention to detail and deductive reasoning skills
  • Expertise in creating presentations that deliver complex messaging concisely and persuasively to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Strong interpersonal skills that enable you to build rapport quickly for strong, positive relationships

Preference for:

  • CFA or CPA
  • Experience with Bloomberg or Factset

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W. combined with remote work arrangements in response to COVID-19
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
  • We require qualified and safety-focused employees for business-critical roles that maintain our commitment to operational excellence and reliable operations.
