In this role, you will contribute to the critical operational support of databases across a wide variety of enterprise and specialized applications. Additionally, this role will provide database support for project and special demand initiatives. You will be involved with multiple database platforms and many different operating environments, on premises and in the cloud.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Advise and participate in installation, configuration, maintenance, backup, recovery, and troubleshooting activities related to database software and related products
  • Work with our vendor partners in a technical lead role to guide and support database operational activities
  • Actively participate in a team environment, sharing your knowledge and experience
  • Actively acquire new skills working in new operating environments including public cloud environments
  • Create and maintain operational support documentation

We’d like to review your application if you have…

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Eight years of DBA experience with RDMS products
  • Demonstrable DBA experience working with both Oracle and MS SQL Server
  • Comfortable working with High Availability and Disaster Recovery configurations
  • One year of experience with database deployment and database migrations in cloud environments, AZURE and/or AWS
  • Demonstrable proficiency with automation and scripting in a number of different operating environments including: MS Windows and UNIX (Sun/Solaris and/or AIX and/or HP/UX and/or Oracle LINUX and/or Redhat LINUX)
  • Demonstrable proficiency working with different database monitoring tools (OEM and/or Ignite and/or Datadog)
  • Demonstratable proficiency with SQL
  • Familiarity working with ITIL processes with regard to Incident, Change, and Problem management.

Preference for:

  • Good working knowledge of MongoDB, DB2 and open source DB technologies MySQL and PostgreSQL
  • Operational experience with Oracle Golden Gate
  • Certification in database technologies
  • Cloud certifications

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the ability to be “on-call” 24/7 to support operational incidents and service level commitments on a rotation.
