Job Overview
Reporting to the manager, portfolio and development for Fort Hills, you will work directly with project owners and asset teams to understand, review, and document key business problems and opportunities and assist in developing creative and strategic approaches to solving them. You will apply processes to move projects from inception to the end of the project life cycle.  Additionally, you will review all project updates and capital funding requests prepared for Fort Hills partners, and may be required to represent Suncor to the partnership.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead integrated teams comprising of development, execution, operations, technical and functional partners till gate 2
  • Manage the “development’ skillset over the life of the project and own the business case, scope definition, and funding plan
  • Successfully translate and implement our asset development execution model (ADEM) process throughout the business
  • Define problems and opportunities and identify cost effective solutions that align to the business strategy
  • Facilitate information gathering for developing scope for the identified solutions
  • Analyze multiple options and work with the business area to screen options and ultimately complete concept selection and design
  • Build documents that align with corporate and business unit deliverables
  • Ensure cross functional teams (operations, maintenance, technical, etc.) alignment throughout projects
  • Provide data and assumptions to our corporate economics group
  • Review project updates and capital funding requests prior to issuance to Fort Hills partners
  • Support the completion of the long range (10 year) capital plan and annual capital budget
  • Deliver stewardship to cross functional teams, supported by integrated project teams
  • Obtain project partner alignment and gatekeeper decision as required

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor of business, engineering or geoscience  
  • Six or more years of experience in leading/coordinating cross-functional groups and/or experience in a relevant business area

Skills and Knowledge:

  • High degree of proficiency with Excel and Power Point
  • Knowledge of the oil sands business and processes is considered an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal and engagement skills
  • You collaborate with others in order to achieve the best results and deliver the most value
  • Superior communication skills both written and verbal
  • Proven critical evaluation and analysis skills with demonstrable application of results
  • Ability to work with multi-discipline, cross-functional teams and work in a dynamic and time constrained environment
  • Continuous improvement mindset with strong analytical and decision-making capacity
  • Ability to influence and negotiate with project stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multiple and changing priorities under tight deadlines with strong prioritizing skills
