IT Continuity and Recovery Specialist

The digital resilience function focuses on proactively managing business impact assessments (BIA), service continuity management, and IT emergency response and disaster recovery management. In this role, you will work with internal staff and third party outsourced teams in planning, testing and recovery services. This is to ensure critical technology, products, and services are able to maintain a predetermined level of availability during both planned and unplanned disruptions.  You will be responsible to deliver key services offered by the digital resilience function using a continuous improvement mindset to continually improve existing offerings in line with industry best practices.  You will work directly with all levels of IT and business leadership to as part of the Suncor 4.0 transformation with a focus on creating value from data and securing our future through digital technology.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Ensure business impact assessments are conducted for both new and existing applications and services
  • Enable effective data gathering required to ensure a thorough and accurate business impact analysis of both new applications and current critical products
  • Identify risks to our IT products and services which may impact business operations through collaboration with business stakeholders and Digital & Information Technology groups
  • Act as back-up facilitator for disaster recovery or IT emergency response situations within IT operations when required
  • Act as a key member of the response management team during an IT emergency response plan activation by providing incident command system process guidance to senior IT leaders
  • Ensure multiple disaster recovery plans are kept up to date and tested annually while continuing to onboard additional products into the overall disaster recovery portfolio
  • Support the drive to onboard additional critical products and services into the disaster recovery program
  • Provide digital resilience advisory support to ensure BIA criticality information is available to other teams to support ongoing operations
  • Provide regular reviews of vendor attestations to ensure alignment with digital resilience requirements

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Ten years of experience leading IT resiliency programs for large enterprises
  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or equivalent experience
  • Working knowledge of cloud computing concepts (i.e. IaaS, PaaS, & SaaS) as it pertains to high availability and disaster recovery principles and strategies
  • Strong understanding of industry standards related to assuring resilience of cloud platforms (ie: SOC I, SOC II, ISO 27001, ISO27017/27018)
  • Strong experience and understanding of the ITIL service management disciplines within the context of service design, transition, and operations
  • A critical thinking attitude: you can build, update, and monitor our processes and procedures in order to make improvements
  • Experience implementing cross-functional process improvements and delivering excellent results  
  • High degree of autonomy and drive, with full ownership of the work  
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with people at all organizational levels  
  • Collaboration skills which enable you to build strong, positive relationships with diverse groups across all levels of leadership

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs. Some on-call and after hours required in support of emergency response, disaster recovery, and supporting major incidents
