Director, Cloud and Infrastructure Platforms

You will be responsible and accountable, for the strategic transformation of our IT infrastructure from legacy/on-premise IT infrastructure and applications to a modernized, cloud-cloud first, and optimized service platform for Suncor.

You will translate aggressive goals into demand-driven project scope, clearly defined deliverables, and develop strong relationships within delivery teams, thriving for delivering with highest quality, regardless of the project constraints.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Provide strategic and technology leadership for both cloud and on-premise IT infrastructure platforms
  • Collaborate with business partners within Suncor to create/socialize/get buy-in on the strategic vision for these areas
  • Participate in the definition, execution, and maintenance of enterprise-level Cloud migration strategy, approaches, tools, etc
  • Provide expertise and best practices implementing Cloud migration factory approaches and drive success
  • Ensure that goals, scope, policies, and product domain are understood by everyone on the migration team
  • Identify and implement techniques for effective backlog management the best fit the Cloud Migration case
  • Contribute to tasks such as building cloud foundations, cloud based deployments, migration to the Cloud, hybrid environment management, reviews of environments from the perspective of best practices, security/compliance and automation
  • Mentor team members to ensure cohesive thriving for successful delivery
  • Report to executive management on major accomplishments, issues and concerns

We’d like to review your application if you have…

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • 15 years IT operations, IT infrastructure and cloud experience
  • A Computer Science degree, or Technical College diploma 
  • 7 years of people management experience, leading by engagement, empowerment, continuous feedback, and coaching
  • Hands-on experience in a public Cloud environment (Azure or AWS Cloud)
  • Understanding of multiple public Cloud models (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) and providers (AWS and/or Azure)
  • Hands on experience in Agile frameworks
  • Prior demonstrated success in a matrix-managed, cross-functional, and collaborative organization
  • Prior experience managing technology teams and being responsible for the execution KPIs, OKRs and timelines
  • Passionate about emerging technology trends, and Cloud Migration practices
  • Ability to communicate to both very technical audiences as well as presenting complex technical designs to senior leadership
  • Understanding of project and program management standards and methods
  • Clear appreciation of future technology trends, a proven track record of innovation, and past experience of transitioning an organization into the cloud

Preference for:

  • A demonstrated deep domain knowledge with industry and competitive trends in the cloud space, with ability to find opportunities to leverage new technology to achieve ambitious transformation objectives

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W. combined with remote work arrangements in response to COVID-19
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
  • We require qualified and safety-focused employees for business-critical roles that maintain our commitment to operational excellence and reliable operations.
