Geological Technologist

Approximately 80% of Canada's oil sands are too deep to mine and need to be tapped using in situ production which is a key part of our plans to increase bitumen supply while reducing costs and our impact on the environment. As an integral part of the Mackay River Resource Team supporting In Situ, you will retrieve, assemble and interpret information for well, seismic, reservoir, production, land, and infrastructure. You will also utilize your project and digital data management skills to provide efficient and accurate technical analysis.

 

You will use your expertise to:

  • Complete the loading, quality control, and maintenance of raw and interpreted geoscience and engineering data
  • Improve the workflows, management, and quick access to reliable digital data
  • Compile data and information for mapping
  • Edit and interpret logs, cross-sections, and geological surface maps
  • Execute routine geoscience interpretation and projects with supervision
  • Participate in the development of geological content for internal presentations/documents, and external regulatory applications
  • Provide technical support for SAGD projects

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Less than 8 years of experience as a technologist
  • A post-secondary technology diploma, Geoscience Information Technology is an asset
  • The ability to work with technology software
  • Proven database management experience
  • Basic programming skills with the drive to identify continuous improvement opportunities
  • Alignment with our values of: safety above all else, respect, raise the bar, commitments matter and do the right thing

Preference for:

  • Working knowledge of Petrel (Studio)
  • Experience managing large integrated geological, geophysical, and engineering datasets
  • Thermal project experience

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
  • Extended hours may be required
