IT Portfolio Manager

You will use your expertise to:

  • Lead all portfolio life cycle activities and close out on projects within the portfolio by leading and enabling a team of project managers, staff, technical analysts, vendors, contractors, and consultants
  • Develop and deliver on the end-to-end portfolio plan including milestones, results, critical path items, and interdependencies to execute effectively
  • Interact with sub-portfolio sponsors or team members at the executive-level and above in order to manage complex decisions and influence prioritization of initiatives to overall business priorities
  • Improve portfolio delivery execution by aligning with our stage-gated methodology and using industry best practices
  • Work with the Project Management Office on program status and quality updates
  • Build positive relationships within a matrix environment to deliver on the sub-portfolio by identifying the required resource base and structure required
  • Collaborate with portfolio, delivery, and support teams, and build partnerships with sub-portfolio sponsors and internal and external parties to enable resource demand planning, lead change, and sub-portfolio planning
  • Foresee and handle portfolio risks, issues, and dependencies to schedule commitments, keep the sub-portfolio on cost and raise issues which could have significant impact
  • Work with our outsource partners and technology vendors, and influence existing and new vendor/supplier relationships and the management of the approved vendor list

We’d like to review your application if you have…

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • 15 years of leadership experience with five years as a portfolio manager
  • Experience leading multi-million dollar ($25M+) portfolios
  • A demonstrable ability to manage multiple large scale disparate projects and integrate a diverse group to achieve common goals
  • Bachelor’s degree in commerce or computer science
  • A PMP, PgMP or PfMP certification
  • A deep understanding of project management fundamentals (cost, scope, schedule, budget, integration, vendor management etc.)
  • Exceptional communication skills to translate complex ideas and solutions to various levels of stakeholders
  • Alignment with our values of: safety above all else, respect, raise the bar, commitments matter and do the right thing

Preference for:

  • Experience running IT and/or Agile projects
  • Experience working in or leading a PMO
  • Working towards or completion of an MBA

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday; additional hours may be required based on business need and project schedules/milestones
