Land Management Student (May 2022)

In this role you will be given the opportunity to work on projects within surface, third party and mineral land as delegated.  We will give you the chance to work alongside talented land professionals while giving you hands-on experience.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Process third party assignment documentation, ensuring agreement requirements are met
  • Administer simple agreement obligations, maintenance of land files and inputting of agreement data into the land records system
  • Interpret selected agreements to confirm interests, accounting rates, royalties and other routine administration issues
  • Draft relatively simple land agreements using precedent forms
  • Build contacts with counterparts internally and in other organizations
  • Notify accounting of changes to Division of Interest
  • Maintain existing surface rights and support new projects/initiatives
  • Support Acquisition and Divestment transactions

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Current enrollment in a diploma or degree program in Petroleum Land Administration Advanced Certificate, Energy Asset Management, Land Contracts Extension Certificate and/or a Petroleum Joint Venture Administrator or Analyst Extension Certificate or a related program at an accredited post-secondary institution

  • Outstanding collaboration skills that enables you to build strong, positive relationships with diverse groups
  • Exceptional ability to anticipate potential problems, check for out-of-the-ordinary conditions and a strong sense of accountability is essential to be successful in this role
  • Alignment with our values

Preference for:

  • Previous knowledge or training in agreements would be an asset
  • Skills in the use of relevant software
  • Familiarity with industry documentation (CAPL/CAPLA precedents, operating procedures, and PASC etc.)
  • Understanding of the implementation of land agreement precedents

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • This is a 4-month work term, from May 2022 – August 2022
