Job Overview

Are you looking for an opportunity to join us as a legal assistant, working alongside our lawyers? Reporting to the director, legal affairs, for our Exploration and Production business unit, you will provide general administrative support including tasks such as photocopying, opening and closing files, coordinating mail, arranging couriers, and ordering office supplies.

Key Accountabilities

  • Perform support, preparation, and submission of legal reporting requirements and handle the litigation summary spreadsheet
  • Diarize matters for limitation deadlines, handle calendars, and ensure timely communication to lawyers for urgent matters
  • Prepare, edit, and format various legal documents
  • Process and track invoices along with monitoring accruals
  • Track the lawyers’ professional memberships and contact information and keep them up to date
  • Monitor, organize, and administer travel and handle lawyers’ travel profiles as well as complete and submit monthly Visa and cash expense reports
  • Coordinate client meetings and educational seminars, including booking meeting rooms and helping with the set-up of audio visual requirements
  • Oversee searches (Queens Bench Court, Personal Property Registry, Corporate Registry, Land Titles, etc.)
  • Lead technical resources and be responsible for IT / office services needs

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • 3 - 10 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in the area of oil and gas law or commercial law
  • Legal Assistant Diploma
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in the full Microsoft Office suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.
  • Proficiency in Deltaview is preferred
  • Self-starter, who is enthusiastic and flexible, with the ability to handle multiple demands and shifting priorities
  • You thrive under deadline pressures, enjoy working with tight timelines, and consistently maintain a strong attention to detail
  • You constantly ask what could go wrong and check for out-of-the-ordinary conditions and learn to anticipate potential
  • You hold others accountable, and expect others to do the same
