Manager, Operational Excellence Management Systems (OEMS)

Do you have exceptionally strong non-authoritative leadership and influencing skills, and have experience in operational risk management systems? If so, we are looking for you! In this exciting role, you will be responsible for improvement and sustainment of our enterprise-wide Operational Excellence Management System (OEMS). You will direct and coordinate the work of a team of senior professionals and have overall responsibility to achieve team deliverables.

This role requires a solid understanding of the business environment, external best practices, our strategy and areas of business, our operational excellence philosophy, and expert knowledge of how management systems drive continuous improvement of business processes and drive for safe and reliable operations.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Provide guidance on understanding and implementing OEMS, aligned with Operations Integrity Audit, to a wide set of stakeholders (including Operations Council and related forums, senior leaders, and OEMS practitioners within the business)
  • Lead the OEMS Network, representing enterprise wide OEMS business leaders and practitioners
  • Define scope and competency requirements of OEMS practitioners
  • Engage and train leaders in the requirements of the OEMS and their roles in implementation and sustainment of the OEMS
  • Direct resources to develop OEMS training, including The Core intranet OEMS page, OEMS Hub page and online OEMS interactive training modules
  • Provide regular updates to senior leaders on the status of OEMS implementation and feedback on learnings
  • Recommend strategies for the improvement and sustainment of the OEMS based on external best practices and lessons learned through implementation
  • Govern and enable OEMS Self Assessments and Management Reviews for the Enterprise
  • Facilitate and support the enterprise wide management review, though quarterly meetings with the Operations Council, and summarize key themes and opportunities for continuous improvement in management of operational risk

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • 15 years of industry experience in a variety of progressive roles, including operations
  • Experience in direct and indirect leadership of teams of senior professionals and technical experts
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Engineering or Business
  • Broad experience in operational risk management systems and compliance management
  • Solid knowledge of operational risk management frameworks and control strategies
  • Ability to provide a strategic approach to optimize, integrate and/or design processes & supporting systems
  • Well-developed ability to problem-solve and create effective solutions to complex issues
  • Understanding of the external business environment and best practices
  • Advanced communications and presentation skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to coordinate and manage multiple, competing priorities
  • Understanding of current and emerging business environment and ability to communicate impacts and changes to processes and systems required to meet business needs
  • Credibility with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
