Job Overview

Reporting to the director inventory revenue and supply accounting, you will be accountable for the accounting related activities supporting hydrocarbon movements into and out of Suncor refineries. This includes the supply and marketing of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), the supply of crude oil and the marketing of certain refined products related to the refineries.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead a team responsible for the timely completion of month-end processes to ensure financial results are recorded into SAP accurately
  • Manage crude feedstock intercompany invoices to the refineries and related intercompany journal entries (J/E)
  • Monitor intercompany LPG refinery invoices and related intercompany J/E
  • Calculate intercompany byproduct pricing based on byproduct marketers sales transactions in the month and related logistics costs and related interco J/E
  • Compile intercompany invoices to refineries for rail related costs and related intercompany J/E
  • Manage Inventory crude in transit analysis and completion of monthly inventory book to physical process for crude in transit, LPG’s and byproducts
  • Process monthly/annual reports for Tax group (i.e. Alberta carbon levy, cap and trade, GST/HST) and customs (foreign cargos delivered to refinery)
  • Lead working capital analysis for Suncor’s midstream
  • Prepare and/or support of monthly stewardship for rail group, byproducts, LPG and crude
  • Effectively assist corporate/external reporting with implementation of new accounting standards/regulations and projects i.e. transition to Livelink, days to close
  • Assist byproducts, LPG, crude marketing with any finance related questions (billing/invoicing; Lease policy; quarter-end accruals; creation of new cost centre, stat orders, internal orders)

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • 5-10 years post designation experience preferably in the oil and gas industry
  • Midstream or energy trading experience preferred
  • Bachelor degree in finance or related field and CPA designation is required
  • High school diploma or general education diploma (GED)

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Intermediate to expert skills in SAP
  • Proven ability to effectively lead a team while ensuring deliverables are accurate and informative for our customers/stakeholders
  • Continual process improvement to present information in a more meaningful and accurate way
  • Collaborate with our key partners in finding ways to improve processes to work more efficiently and reduce manual work
  • As an effective leader you hold others accountable, and expect others to do the same
