Picture yourself as our face to market for structured transactions between Suncor’s portfolio and external opportunities. Our Supply, Trading and Optimization group is looking for an experienced professional to join our dynamic and growing Power and Natural Gas trading team. In this role, you will work closely with members of our trading teams to identify, structure and execute transactions with external counterparties that are accretive to Suncor in Alberta and connecting markets. 

You will use your expertise to:

  • Develop a strong understanding of current business activities and portfolio of assets
  • Combine equity and third-party assets or positions to create value while serving customer needs
  • Leverage existing relationships with external counterparties through frequent interactions
  • Work closely with power generating assets and trading team to monetization power output and risk mitigation
  • Execute transactions with target customers by working with internal partners including risk, credit and legal
  • Create value-added products and service offerings that are complementary to our existing business for current and prospective customers, and profitably expand our footprint and depth of those respective relationships
  • Originate carbon neutral opportunities in alignment with Suncor’s energy transition
  • Generate an agreed upon profit target

We’d like to review your application if you have…

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • 10 years of energy related origination experience
  • A Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field
  • Knowledge of macro power market fundamentals and drivers
  • Demonstrated experience in cultivating high-value relationships and closing high value transactions
  • Strong collaboration skills that enables you to build strong, positive relationships with diverse groups
  • Deductive reasoning skills and the ability to apply risk assessment decisions
  • Strong analytical skills in order to provide trading support, generate ideas and assist in the development of market recommendations
  • The ability to work under pressure and simultaneously manage deal negotiations across various markets concurrently
  • Alignment with our values: safety above all else, stronger together, operational discipline, curiosity and lifelong learning, and act with integrity

Preference for:

  • Five years of Power origination experience

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
  • Relocation support will be provided
