Product Optimization Specialist | Production Planner

This is a dynamic role that interfaces across Base Plant, In Situ and Supply Trading & Optimization.  Developing the optimized production and sales plan and informing execution strategy with the aim of minimizing risk to production and maximizing company revenue are paramount. Using your knowledge of regional integration and production planning and logistics will be key to supporting ongoing and future projects.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Build detailed Base Plant and In-Situ production plans for pipeline nominations and sales
  • Optimize production and product blends and increase revenue through collaboration with site operations and by following guidance and marketing insights provided by Supply Trading & Optimization
  • Analyze performance to plan to identify value creation opportunities and improve the planning process
  • Evaluate production ranges and identify, and where possible, alleviate constraints and risks to the production plan
  • Advise Base Plant management on upcoming nominations plans and optimal site wide operations including unit feed slates, budgets, turnaround timing, strategic opportunities, etc.
  • Analyze the synergies between Oil Sands and Suncor Edmonton Refinery, identify opportunities for optimization, and provide economic drivers

We’d like to review your application if you have…

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Four years of experience supporting oil sands operations or production planning
  • A Bachelor of Engineering degree in a related discipline
  • Registration or immediately eligible for registration with the association of professional engineers and geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) as a professional engineer
  • Advanced skills in Excel, with ability to pull PI data
  • Interest in understanding and mastering a range of planning and optimization tools including LP modeling
  • Strong communication, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong collaboration skills that enable you to build strong, positive relationships with diverse groups
  • The ability to anticipate potential problems and check for out-of-the-ordinary conditions, as well as having a strong sense of accountability

Preference for:

  • Understanding of integrated operating areas (Upgrading, Mining, Tailings, Firebag, MacKay River)

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W
  • Applicants from Fort McMurray are welcomed and will work out of our Base Plant Mine in Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
