Our Digital Platforms and Industrial Operations team has an exciting new opportunity for you! In this dynamic role you will be responsible for governance, oversight and execution of Suncor wide radio frequency (RF) design, planning and spectrum management. You will focus on accelerating the availability of robust and reliable connectivity options to support current/future initiatives.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Deliver governance and oversight of RF technology, spectrum management and RF design/planning processes
  • Ensure effective and efficient RF planning and constant operational reliability
  • Govern and complete RF designs, simulations, and site surveys
  • Develop and improve Suncor-wide RF spectrum related processes and procedures
  • Drive system convergence and optimization of the RF environment.

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • A Bachelor’s degree in an engineering technical discipline or computer science combined with experience in industrial operations/projects
  • Ten or more years of industrial RF and/or system engineering experience
  • Experience in RF and wireless
  • Experience with engineering, procuring, constructing, commissioning, and operating critical wireless network infrastructure
  • RF/wireless engineering and design experience in large, site wide industrial wireless networks including Wi-Fi/MESH, point to point (Aviat/Redline/Proxim/etc.), point to multipoint (Redline/Cambium/etc.), LTE/5G, and 2-way radios (Motorola P25, MotoTRBO, PTT)
  • The ability to work from concept to design, simulate the solution and see it through delivery and operations
  • The ability to easily collaborate with others in order to achieve the best results and deliver the most value
  • Exceptional technical, decision-making, problem solving skills and the ability to think strategically and identify root-causes and critical elements
  • High motivation, resourcefulness, resiliency and commitment to continuous improvement

Preference for:

  • Oil and gas industry experience
  • Experience with managing and coordinating licensed and unlicensed RF spectrum
  • Experience in the field including RF site surveys & audits with a strong track record of safety performance
  • You enjoy connecting disparate ideas to generate elegant solutions

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
  • Occasional travel to all Suncor sites will be required
