Job Overview

Reporting to the team lead, competency-based learning, you will be responsible for program management related to the design, development, execution, and sustainment of our competency across Suncor. You are recognized as a learning and competency subject matter expert with extensive business knowledge and expertise in key processes and relevant programs.

Key Accountabilities

  • Research, build, develop and implement the applicable components of the competency development process to various projects (Competency Maps, Competency Assessment Tools)
  • Lead and support competency development projects that link competency to integrated talent management to mitigate potential competency risks
  • Use effective change management practices to assists individuals and teams to take ownership for the implementation and sustainment of competency based learning and other related talent management practices
  • Build competence and organizational capability regarding the execution and implementation of the development process
  • Use independent judgment to develop strategies and creative solution that address highly complex issues and make recommendations on program design and policy changes
  • Translate and effectively communicate business strategies into project objectives and ensure acceptance and alignment with business leaders and HR professionals
  • Create complex, detailed documents that require considerable knowledge of specialized processes and procedures
  • Coordinate competency development work and transfer best practices to the Suncor talent community
  • Provide mentorship to junior colleagues, coach and advise senior leadership in competency development and competency processes

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • 8 to 12 years of experience in adult education/corporate learning
  • Expertise and experience in leading the development of competency-based initiatives through the development lifecycle from conceptualization to impact analysis
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, business, human resources, or a related technical field

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Effective organizational and project management skills to prioritize and manage multiple projects within tight deadlines
  • Ability to influence without a direct line of authority
  • You are skilled at consulting and collaborating within cross-functional teams with a continuous improvement mindset
  • You have superb communication skills and are able to adapt communication style to suit the requirements of a wide range of stakeholders
  • You possess high-level analytical and research skills, and demonstrate integrity, respect and accountability
