Senior Analyst, Finance and Planning

Job Overview

Reporting to the director of finance, you will support overall Fort Hills operations (FHO) with analysis and planning activities, providing an excellent opportunity to actively participate in a start-up environment and the on-going transition from construction to operations.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead the FHO finance team’s conversion to new reporting tool options, test and pilot new methods for gathering, analyzing and synthesizing data for simplified reporting and analysis
  • Support the long range planning process for the business, consolidate the plan, help to draft the presentation while working directly with team
  • Support the annual asset retirement obligations (ARO), reserves analysis and compilation process
  • Responsible for understanding relevant industry and competitor benchmarks and comparing Fort Hills performance against them
  • Responsible for generating insightful analysis to support the business while working with the Finance finance and planning (F&P) team to drive the result down through the various leadership teams in operations
  • Provide ad-hoc analysis and support business development work as required
  • Analyze and generate analysis on key business drivers and metrics to build both financial and business acumen for operations and the Finance F&P team
  • High integration with other finance departments and with business areas within Suncor to support additional Fort Hills partnership requirements

Required Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • A minimum of three years of relevant analytical experience is required
  • Previous experience in the mining sector would be an asset
  • Bachelor degree, preferably in economics, engineering, business, or accounting or equivalent education
  • Professional designation (CPA, MBA, P. Eng) an asset

Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong interpersonal and communication (both written and oral) skills in order to partner and communicate effectively with remote stakeholders and key business contacts
  • Organized with the ability to prioritize and manage competing priorities
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Driven by a curiosity about the business, peer companies etc. combined with an ability to turn that curiosity into insightful analysis
  • Proficient in microsoft excel and any other analytical / reporting tools, an asset
  • Possess a continuous improvement mindset especially in the area of process improvement
  • You constantly ask what could go wrong and check for out-of-the-ordinary conditions and learn to anticipate potential problems
