Senior Competency Advisor

In this role, you will be responsible for program management related to the design, development, execution, and sustainment of competency within Suncor.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Research, build, develop and implement the applicable components of the competency development process for various projects (Competency Maps, Competency Assessment Tools)
  • Lead and support competency development projects that link competency to integrated talent management to mitigate potential competency risks
  • Use effective change management practices to assist individuals and teams in taking ownership for the implementation and sustainment of competency-based learning and other related talent management practices
  • Build competence and organizational capability for the execution and implementation of the development process
  • Use independent judgment to develop strategies and creative solutions that address highly complex issues and make recommendations on the program design and policy changes
  • Translate and effectively communicate business strategies into easy to understand project objectives and ensure acceptance and alignment with business leaders and HR professionals
  • Create complex, detailed documents that require considerable knowledge of specialized processes and procedures
  • Coordinate competency development work and transfer best practices to the Suncor talent community
  • Provide mentorship to junior colleagues, coach and advise senior leadership in competency development and competency processes

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • 8 to 12 years of experience in adult education/corporate learning
  • Expertise and experience in leading the development of competency-based initiatives through the development lifecycle from conceptualization to impact analysis
  • A bachelor’s degree in education, business, human resources, or a related technical field
  • Effective organizational and project management skills to prioritize and manage multiple projects within tight deadlines
  • The ability to influence without a direct line of authority
  • Exceptional consulting and collaboration skills for cross-functional teams with a continuous improvement mindset
  • Superb communication skills and you are able to adapt your communication style to suit your audience
  • High-level analytical and research skills, and you demonstrate integrity, respect and, accountability
  • Alignment with our values of: safety above all else, respect, raise the bar, commitments matter and do the right thing

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
