Senior Hydrogeologist

Job Overview

Reporting to the manager of environmental sciences, you will provide hydrogeology support for oil sands mining and in situ operations.  Join a team of leading edge hydrogeologists and hydrologists working together to understand and mitigate environmental risks related to surface water and groundwater management.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead hydrogeologic and geohazard investigation programs
  • Review groundwater management system performance, examine data quality and prepare performance reports
  • Evaluate depressurization system performance and design system expansion
  • Evaluate seepage management system performance and design system expansion
  • Prepare quaternary dewatering plans
  • Plan water handling strategies for groundwater management
  • Support hydrogeological design of water and waste containment facilities
  • Represent the environmental sciences team in integrated project teams to identify key issues in regards to groundwater management, water quantity, water quality and the aquatic environment
  • Collaborate with internal partners or external vendors to deliver  quality hydrogeological solutions
  • Plan and steward budgets
  • Present to senior leaders and operations leadership
  • Prepare reports for submission to regulatory agencies

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • Ten or more years of  hydrogeological experience,
  • Bachelor degree in geology, hydrogeology, or engineering
  • APEGA P.Eng / P.Geo.  registration

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong knowledge of oil sands regulatory environment
  • Original and creative thinking skills for practical and economical solutions
  • Excellent project management skills
  • You collaborate with others in order to achieve the best results and deliver the most value
  • You hold others accountable, and expect others to do the same

Working Conditions

  • This position is based in Calgary, AB with occasional travel to operating sites within Alberta
