Senior Internal Audit Advisor

Do you have dynamic skills, business insight and experience to formulate and execute audits for all of Suncor? In this role, you will implement full scope internal audits including planning, fieldwork, and reporting of recommendations to management based on a risk-based audit approach.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Understand and apply Suncor’s internal audit methodology that links business objectives with risks and controls to provide assurance and advice to management and the board, including:
    • developing a solid business understanding of the audit area
    • performing a risk assessment of the audit area
    • developing audit objectives and scope
    • communicating with the business throughout audit planning and execution
    • evaluate the design and operating effectiveness of internal controls in mitigating risk through audit testing and interviews
    • adhering to audit documentation requirements and reporting standards
  • Assist in determining, writing and communicating impactful recommendations to management in an audit report
  • Guide the organization and leadership on how to improve our business processes, control, governance, incorporate effectiveness and efficiency, and decipher technical, procedural matters
  • Follow-up on outstanding corrective actions to internal audit findings

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Five or more years of relevant work experience, with a broad knowledge of business processes, risk and controls
  • A university degree accompanied by a professional accounting designation, MBA, certified internal auditor designation or P. Eng 
  • Strong software aptitude and experience
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise professional judgement, and critical thinking, with strong technical and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly, concisely, and persuasively verbally and in writing
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to interact effectively with individuals from different areas of the business and at all levels of the organization
  • Results oriented, with excellent organization skills, including the ability to effectively prioritize and balance multiple, competing deliverables with the ability to adapt as priorities shift
  • An understanding of business risks and process issues that impact organizations, combined with a continuous improvement/process mindset
  • Alignment with our values of: safety above all else, respect, raise the bar, commitments matter and do the right thing

Preference for:

  • Previous experience in oil and gas
  • The ability to work with minimal supervision and within a team environment
  • Demonstrated non-authoritative leadership capability and the ability to provide persuasive evidence to internal clients on risks, weaknesses and proposed recommendations
  • Experience with data analytics and data acquisition, and scripting including knowledge of available technology and leading practices

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
  • Some travel may be required depending on the nature of the audit
