Senior Upstream Communications Advisor

Acting as an informal leader, you will coordinate expert communication counsel and support of multi-faceted projects in a fast paced environment supporting our Upstream business.


You will use your expertise to:

  • Build communication strategies and execute tactics that enable strategic Upstream business priorities
  • Oversee opportunities, develop recommendations and deliver collateral across communication platforms
  • Collaborate with business leaders, functional experts and our communications team to engage and align groups
  • Lead business leaders and communications partners on key Upstream business issues and risks, helping to navigate reputational challenges
  • Coach and mentor other team members and partners on best practices
  • Provide timely support to the business during emergencies or critical events as a participant to the on-call rotation

We’d like to review your application if you have…

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • 10 years’ experience in communications
  • A University degree or related post-secondary diploma/certificate in Communications, Public Relations, Business, or an associated field
  • Experience as a trusted communication consultant to internal and external client groups overseeing communication issues
  • Outstanding communications skills, including planning, research, writing (print and web), editing and measurement
  • Proven ability to carry unstructured projects to completion within a changing environment, and work successfully with different types of people at many organizational levels
  • Competence to successfully lead multiple projects with tight deadlines
  • Able to handle client expectations, engage diverse interests and develop exceptional partnerships, in an informal leadership role
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, specifically Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Alignment with our values of: safety above all else, respect, raise the bar, commitments matter and do the right thing

Preference for:

  • Experience in the oil and gas industry, including joint-venture operations
  • Experience within a corporate communications or business partner setting
  • Familiarity with  change and reputation management

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
  • Irregular hours may be required to accommodate emergency on-call rotation
  • Occasional travel between operating locations can be expected
