Solution Designer (Loyalty Programs)

We are on a journey to transform our customer experience at our retail and wholesale Petro-Canada sites.   If you are a creative and a dedicated solution design expert, we want to talk to you!   You will act as lead contact with our application support vendor and your technical applications and business expertise will be relied on to provide guidance and direction to build solutions – taking  a “Build It and Own IT” approach when delivering solutions that result in great customer experiences and substantially impact the successful delivery of our portfolio of loyalty business applications (Petro-Points System). 

You will use your expertise to:

  • Lead the operation of loyalty (Petro-Points) applications by identifying and raising issues, and planning and coordinating solutions to ensure maximal uptime, reliability and stabilization of systems
  • Oversee and support application solution design, ensuring functional specifications meet or exceed established business and functional requirements, technical standards, quality measures and continuous improvement goals
  • Direct local and offshore partners to deliver on incidents and demands and keep parties informed and held accountable
  • Share expertise to support various product teams, projects, problem cases or service requests
  • Participate in application road mapping, lifecycle management and co-ordination of changes
  • Gather and translate business requirements into functional / technical specifications
  • Facilitate and participate in the build and implementation of technical solutions
  • Reduce technical risk by upskilling our Product/Project Teams through mentoring and providing technical guidance and advice on leading practices, industry standards and conventions, and frameworks and methods
  • Assist with building presentations and business cases to influence funding strategies made for Product solutions related to the loyalty systems and improvements including, request for service (RFSs), service orders and projects
  • Monitor solution designs for risks, issues, dependencies and collisions with other Retail and Enterprise applications

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • 5 years of experience in designing, implementing and supporting Retail and/or Loyalty systems and applications for large enterprises in an Agile Software development environment
  • A Computer Science degree, or Technical College diploma
  • Deep understanding of host systems, applications and interfaces; system and network design; agile and waterfall project methodologies
  • Experience with C# (ASP.Net / MVC / LINQ / Entity Framework / WCF) and SQL Server (T-SQL, SSIS)
  • Knowledge of current and future technologies which can be applied to delivering a great customer experience
  • Understanding of coding and data architecture practices and standards
  • Proficiency in Microsoft O/S and M/S products
  • Good communication and analytical skills; you are a committed problem solver with sound decision-making ability, attention to detail and documentation skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills at both a technical and business level, and  can build positive relationships with highly dispersed and dynamic teams

Preference for:

  • Experience with NCR’s Loyalty Pro system
  • Experience in supporting cloud based applications in MS AZURE
  • Exposure to integrating applications using a variety of technologies including Mulesoft and Webmethods

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W. combined with remote work arrangements in response to COVID-19
  • Hours of work are typically a 40-hour workweek, Monday to Friday, with some additional hours required occasionally to meet critical deadlines or schedules
