Job Overview

Are you someone who is highly analytical, influential, and strategic? We have the perfect opportunity for you. Working closely with the manager of freight and transportation, you will develop, implement and sustain enterprise wide sourcing strategies and their corresponding commercial arrangements for transportation services, supporting all areas of Suncor.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop and maintain a detailed knowledge of the sub-categories; consolidating sub-category demand for services at the site and enterprise level
  • Lead the development and implementation of supply strategies as well as the optimized tactical solutions; engage in strategic and tactical decisions with senior peers and leaders
  • Evaluate and develop recommendations for the commercial structures of contracts with both new and existing contractors and manage the strategic supplier relationships
  • Develop, negotiate and draft commercial agreements for the provision of services consistent with articulated supply strategies and ensure effective roll-out of negotiated terms and conditions to respective peers and business units
  • Ensure contractors consistently deliver services that meet business requirements and drive value for Suncor through the contractor performance management process
  • Monitor and collaborate to manage potential contractor cost, availability, product quality and reliability risks to Suncor’s businesses

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • Six or more years of experience with strategy development in commercial or supply chain roles; familiarity of the transportation industry will be considered an asset
  • Extensive experience with the execution of strategy development, contract formation and administration duties of complex contracts
  • Post-secondary degree in business, economics, or related discipline

Skills and Knowledge:

  • General understanding of oil sands mining, upgrading or refining processes is an asset
  • You have advanced commercial and negotiation skills and a deep understanding of risk management
  • You can easily adapt to multiple priorities and complex demands in a dynamic environment, with a strong continuous improvement mindset
  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills supported by active listening behaviors, with a keen ability to influence and negotiate
  • You are a strong problem solver who makes sound decisions in demanding and ambiguous situations and you are capable of working independently with limited supervision or direction
  • Your analytical, business and financial acumen are paramount and you can balance both technical and commercial issues that arise
  • You are results oriented and able to drive both execution and accountability and you can effectively prioritize an independent schedule

Working Conditions

  • This position is located in Calgary, Alberta
  • Minimal travelling could be required within Canada and the U.S.
