Specialist, Wireless and Network Infrastructure

Job Overview

Reporting to the manager, networks, you will be accountable for the provision and efficient operations of infrastructure network services in support of Information and Process Management (I&PM). You will provide leadership and technical direction to meet or exceed the reliability and service level objectives of our internal business customers.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide key input into future infrastructure wireless and network strategy
  • Manage our wireless and network technologies to meet or exceed the technical security standards and policies
  • Lead our outsourced vendor management to achieve the best performance and quality while reducing cost.
  • Ensure critical wireless and network infrastructure meets disaster recovery requirements
  • Evaluate new technologies and trends and make recommendations that positively impact our business needs
  • Identify and implement our continuous improvement opportunities
  • Lead the planning required to prepare for the implementation of changes
  • Coordinate our original equipment manufacturer in the delivery and support of our infrastructure
  • Validate radio frequency link performance, quality and reliability
  • Contribute to defining our standards, policies and processes for network operations

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • 10 or more years of network infrastructure operations experience; oil and gas industry experience is an asset
  • Five or more years’ experience supporting corporate and industrial wireless networks is preferred
  • Experience in infrastructure solutions design or project management is an asset
  • Computer science degree or technical college diploma (e.g. S.A.I.T.)
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)

Skills and Knowledge:

  • You have good technical knowledge at the enterprise level for wireless networks with specific knowledge in Wi-Fi, pervasive Wi-Fi, Wi-Max, satellite, microwave and SCADA technologies
  • Deep knowledge of an enterprise level network including: WAN/LAN, MPLS, optimization, load balancing, satellite, cloud computing, routing, switching, QOS, TCP/IP and IaaS
  • Ability to work effectively with various sizes of highly focused and geographically dispersed teams
  • You have proven ability in managing and responding to rapidly changing business priorities
  • You are a dynamic self-starter that collaborates well with multi-disciplinary teams and thrives in a fast-paced work environment

Working Conditions

  • Position is on-call 24/7 with the need to have remote access ability via phone and computer
