Senior Risk Analyst (Sales & Marketing)

If you have a passion for data and mitigating business risk using advanced analytics and data visualization tools, we have the right opportunity for you! We are seeking a Senior Risk Analyst to join our Sales & Marketing Risk Management team. In this role, you will lead our efforts to leverage Big Data and identify areas of business risk, specifically in the areas of Fraud, Financial, and Fuels. As we move through our Suncor 4.0 digital transformation, you will be a key contributor in the development and sustainment of Machine Learning fraud detection models supporting our proprietary consumer facing card and digital products. Using your analytical and collaborative mindset, you will also develop, automate, and sustain a variety of tools used by the Risk Management team including the migration of reporting to Power BI. In this role you will also have the opportunity to lead end-to-end, customer facing fraud investigations on our SuperPass commercial credit card and Petro-Points loyalty programs.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Create business value from data to identify and reduce our risk exposure and mitigate financial, reputational, and regulatory risk across our network of 2,000 retail and wholesale sites
  • Work with internal and external partners to develop and sustain Machine Learning based risk mitigation models
  • Lead data driven cross-functional meetings and round-table discussions on risk mitigation
  • Represent the Risk Management team in data driven cross-functional meetings, initiatives, and projects
  • Identify opportunities to enhance and automate the current suite of Risk Management tools and processes
  • Act as a product owner of Risk Management tools, reports, and models
  • As required, lead end-to-end customer facing fraud investigations

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • A post-secondary education, preferably in business, engineering, or computer science
  • 5+ years experience with data analytics, data visualization tools, business intelligence, automation, and enterprise-level report management
  • Experience working with relational databases and writing SQL, Python, and DAX
  • Knowledge and experience building Microsoft Power BI dashboards or experience with Tableau, Business Objects BI suite
  • Strong technical and statistical skills with exceptional Excel skills
  • Excellent organizational and facilitation skills
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills to translate complex and detailed concepts into meaningful business insights and identify emerging risks and trends

Preference for:

  • Previous Risk Management experience within a large oil & gas organization
  • An understanding of the retail and wholesale fuels business along with associated fuel dispensing and Point-of-Sale technologies
  • Experience with SAP, up to and including version S/4
  • An understanding of fuels reconciliation from terminal to customer tank and associated risks
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure infrastructure and Machine Learning services
  • Previous experience with credit card and loyalty fraud
  • An understanding of accounting concepts and practices; experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365, IBM Cognos / Powerplay, and Microsoft Axapta
  • Customer relationship management experience in dealing with often difficult and sensitive situations

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
