Job Overview

Reporting to the director, value chain management (VCM) and optimization, you will develop and finalize monthly Edmonton Oil Sands (EOS) operating plans, using a linear programming optimization tool, and coordinate its implementation through the Integrated Planning Process. You will primarily interface between oil sands and supply trading and optimization teams to enable any decisions around optimizing crude blending for Edmonton refinery and third parties.

Key Accountabilities

  • You will be accountable for monitoring deviations from the agreed plan, and assess the economic impact
  • Prepare the EOS operating plan that will in turn become the basis for input into the Edmonton refinery and oil sands operating plan
  • Identify optimization opportunities within the western orbit with a particular focus on Edmonton refinery feedstock & those that would integrate with oil sands
  • Identify trigger points (volumetrically or financially) that would change decisions and force re-assessment of the operating plan
  • Coordinate and optimize oil sands activities with supply trading crude optimization and Western Canada product supply teams
  • Conduct post-audits and back casting financial evaluations so that deviations can be identified and analyzed to learn on a continuous basis from history and improve profits in the future
  • Look for creative solutions to remove and minimize financial impacts of current constraints so that we can improve integrated value.
  • Conduct analytical reviews of the linear program results to better understand and influence for future opportunities
  • Work with the optimization specialists in the other orbits so that cross Suncor commonalities are captured in the plan

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • A minimum of six or seven years of relevant experience
  • University degree in Chemical/Mechanical Engineering or other relevant technical degree

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Advanced knowledge of refining operations and supply activities and principles
  • Knowledge of Oil Sands and Downstream financial drivers and information systems
  • Superior analytical/performance skills with a strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Advanced computer skills
  • Working knowledge of SAP and LP is preferred
  • Good written and communication skills, advanced analytical skills and excellent interpersonal team/non-authoritative leadership skills
  • Strong time management skills with superior ability to effectively and efficiently manage multiple demands and assignments within deadlines
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills to work with other Rackback and Rackforward teams to meet common objectives, often under conflicting priorities
  • Continuous improvement mindset with the the ability to drive for improvements in all organizational processes
