Senior Advisor, Environment Health and Safety

Job Overview

Are you passionate about safety, problem solving, building positive relationships, and working within a strong and diverse team environment, then we have the role for you. Reporting to the director, environment health and safety (EH&S), exploration and production (E&P), you will provide EH&S expertise as well as support the E&P business and regions. In this role, you will provide direct support to the director and E&P’s drilling, completion and intervention (DCI) group as well as manage E&P’s historical properties liability management program.


Key Accountabilities

  • Provide EH&S support to E&P’s drilling, completion and intervention organization
  • Manage E&P historical properties environmental liability management program (includes regulatory liaison, budget & long term planning)
  • Develop and sustain E&P- wide EH&S processes within the management system
  • Provide EH&S support for E&P merger and acquisition activities
  • Provide EH&S support for joint venture partners audits


Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • A minimum of 10 years of applicable EH&S or relevant operational experience
  • University degree, or a relevant post-secondary diploma
  • A Canadian Registered Safety Professional designation (or equivalent) is preferred

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Fundamental knowledge and experience with drilling operations, preferably with offshore background
  • Fundamental knowledge of all relevant regulatory frameworks and legislation
  • Program management experience, including long term planning & managing $1M+ budgets
  • Strong influencing and collaboration skills at all levels of the organization
  • Good analytical skills, able to classify hazards or incidents and identify root cause following a prescribed tool/process
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills including the ability to present information clearly and consistently to groups


Working Conditions

  • Located at the Suncor Energy Centre in Calgary
  • This role requires occasional travel as well as the successful completion of our mandatory preplacement medical prior to visiting any offshore sites
