Are you a Web Applications guru, seeking to spend your days planning, organizing, and directing daily operations for areas including Website Services, SaaS Applications and Platforms for customized applications? We are seeking an individual to lead development of governance, processes and methods related to steady state application operations and maintenance. The incumbent will proactively manage full application lifecycle for assigned systems and lead  outsourced vendors in application development, administration/operations, problem and incident management and application system monitoring. You will use your expertise to:

  • Govern and process Suncor’s external web suite of applications
  • Create, monitor and enforce technical and development standards
  • Stay up to date with vendor technology roadmaps and evolution of web CMS and supporting applications
  • Proactively manage full web application lifecycle and maintain current application information in Suncor systems
  • Provides clear direction to Digital Solution Delivery teams as required to ensure that the applications systems reliability and availability remain at high levels
  • Analyze and direct application improvement initiatives working with vendors, staff and business clients
  • Perform technology management stewardship to ensure that business systems are built to correct specifications
  • Support requirement definition and review for enhancements and projects
  • Manage Suncor’s domain registration and management services
  • Transition projects to operations, to train team, ensure they meet Suncor requirements, and do not impact existing functionality/performance
  • Security events remediation – work with Suncor Security Operations to identify the vulnerability, assess remediation strategies, and remediate in a timely manner, communicating the cause and outcome to leadership and stakeholders

Vendor management

  • Leads a team outsourcing vendors and contractors responsible for the following functions/processes:
    • Application Administration/Operations and development
    • Problem Management
    • Incident Management
    • Capacity Management
    • Functional application testing
    • Application system monitoring
  • Monitor compliance with performance expectations including vendors, outsourcers and contractors
  • Prioritize and manage vendor requests
  • Develop strong relationships with vendors to allow for cross-functional knowledge sharing and mutual gains in implementation and operational effectiveness

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • 10+ years of relevant experience including managerial
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and negotiation skills to work effectively with business, Digital &Information Technology staff and vendors. Able to understand/articulate technical information while also being able to convey the details to non-technical stakeholders/partners
  • Deep domain application knowledge for Critical Platforms:
    • Sitecore, Coveo, Datadog, Service-Now, IIS, Windows Servers 2012/2016/2019
  • Deep understanding of development such as (experience in these areas)
    • C# (required), ASP.NET, JavaScript, jQuery, JSON, CSS, XML, HTML, SQL, GitHub, Jira, Visual Studio
  • Database knowledge specifically
    • SQL Server, Oracle, MongoDB
  • Networking knowledge specifically (on-prem/cloud)
    • Global Traffic Management, Load Balancing (F5 Big-IP), Domain Name Management, Enterprise/External DNS, SSL/TLS Standards
  • Business process knowledge – specialized knowledge around how custom web applications and web services (API’s) are used
  • Working knowledge of Content Publishing, Website Management, SaaS Management processes and procedures.
  • Experience with Enterprise Application Integration and Enterprise Service Bus principles
  • Understanding of various methodologies, including Agile/DevOps (Kanban/Scrum) and ITIL
  • High level communication skills to work with business and BRM functions

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
