Student positions (including co-ops and interns) at Suncor are more than just a work term. In this position, you will develop your professional skills, establish relationships and explore how Chemical Engineering functions either in our upstream (oil sands and in situ), downstream (refinery) operations, Fort Hills major projects, or business services.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Participate in Advanced Materials and Manufacturing program for Suncor existing assets and technology development initiatives.
  • Support project partners to make coupons and parts by 3D printing process
  • Develop testing plan and coordinate with lab testing facilities on 3D printed coupon testing including mechanical strength and wear resistance.
  • Conduct lab testing data analysis and compile testing report for the projects
  • Lead 3D printing applications from concept to final parts.
  • Support field installation of the 3D printed parts.
  • Attend program regular review meeting and collaborate with diverse program partners, e.g. research institutes, manufacturers, and Suncor Business Units.
  • Help on project regular review reports and stage reports as needed.

We’d like to review your application if you have…

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Current enrollment in a formal co-op or internship program in 3rd or 4th year Material Engineering or Mechanical Engineering at an accredited post-secondary institution, and returning to full-time studies after the work term. (Attach your transcripts with your application and clearly indicate the length of work term for which you are available)
  • Strong computer skills with intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel
  • Knowledge of metallurgy, welding, damage mechanism, and failure analysis
  • Alignment with our values: safety above all else, stronger together, operational discipline, curiosity and lifelong learning, and act with integrity

Preference for:

  • Excellent technical writing skills (attach your technical papers, reports, or essays as 1st author with confidential information blanked out).
  • Knowledge of Additive Manufacturing (3D printing).
  • Strong collaboration skills that enables you to build strong, positive relationships with diverse project partners

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work mainly out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W. You will work at project partner’s lab located at University of Calgary campus on a regular base.
  • This is an 8 – 12 month work term, starting in January 2022
  • Your work schedule will be regular 8-hour shifts, Monday to Friday
  • Relocation support may be provided
