Job Overview

Reporting to the chief inspector, you will provide support for our turnaround group in planning for equipment inspections, which includes pressure piping, vessels and safety relief devices. You will also support our inspection group in evaluating equipment per the site’s risk based inspection (RBI) program, support area inspector duties when needed and play a key part in the overall success of our Commerce City refinery’s inspection program.

Key Accountabilities

  • Determine repair methods, recommend strategies and assist in developing inspection plans
  • Ensure all equipment that is managed by the inspection department has an RBI evaluation and follows MI-303 RBI processes and procedures
  • Contribute to RBI evaluation, selection and data base management and provide direction in developing the turnaround (TA) scope
  • Assist in the development of specific inspection plans (SIP’s) and repair plans
  • Be involved with the integrity operating window (IOW) determinations
  • Participate in the risk based scope review (RBSR) for scope selection for upcoming turnarounds
  • Manage contract inspection teams for the execution portion of the turnarounds
  • Ensure all turnaround inspection work meets environmental, health and safety (EH&S) requirements and standards, meets regulatory, site codes/procedures and meets the work scope for the turnaround as determined by the TA team
  • Utilize plant condition management system (PCMS) to plan inspections and write notifications in SAP
  • Provide support to area inspectors and potential to fill in area inspector role/responsibilities

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • At least 10 years of mechanical and inspection experience is required
  • Certification in American Petroleum Institute (API) 570 piping is required
  • Certification in API 510 pressure vessel is required
  • Certification in API 580 risk based inspection and/or API 571 damage mechanisms is preferred
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) is required

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated technical knowledge around mechanical work in a refinery setting
  • Basic knowledge of refinery and/or petrochemical processes is preferred
  • Familiar with knowledge management system (KMS), management of change (MOC) and action item tracking tool
  • Strong computer skills, including experience working with SAP, LiveLink, General Refinery Information Navigator (GRIN), PI Process Book and inspection software (PCSM) is preferred

Working Conditions

  • This position is salary based, located in Commerce City, working a Monday – Friday schedule with the expectation to work additional hours as needed
