Job Overview

Working at our Commerce City refinery and reporting to the cross-functional team manager, you will be responsible for providing technical support for the refining process through effective utilization of laboratory instrumentation and measurement systems. You will also provide administrative and technical support for laboratory personnel.

Key Accountabilities

  • Assess and apply innovation in developing technological solutions to further advance improvements in measurement systems and capture efficiencies
  • Ensure laboratory instrumentation and measurements are aligned with all applicable SPC/SQC processes, addressing both acute and chronic issues as necessary
  • Advise laboratory personnel of priorities in day-to-day activities
  • Schedule personnel to ensure adequate staffing is available to support safe, reliable laboratory operations
  • Manage decisions regarding personnel issues to ensure that the rules of the collective bargaining agreement are being followed
  • Collaborate with engineering, production planning and other refinery operations personnel in troubleshooting and optimization of plant production and quickly resolve quality assurance issues
  • Work with appropriate laboratory staff to develop and update testing protocols, providing technical support where necessary
  • Install and commission new analytical instrumentation and train affected personnel, generate/support related procedures, develop related reliability programs and SPC processes based on criticality/risk
  • Repair and uptime of advanced laboratory electronics and instrumentation
  • Ensure that laboratory database (LIMs) meets customer needs; SQC requirements are met, specifications are updated, testing schedules are accurate, resources are adequate, and interfaces such as OSI PI are functional
  • Provide technical assistance to operations for specialized activities

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • Four or more years of experience in refining or a related field
  • Bachelor degree in Chemistry, Chemical or Electrical Engineering

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of electronics and related communication protocols, chemistry and instrumented measurement systems used in chemical/refinery industry
  • Effective organizational skills to prioritize initiatives and communicate information within tight deadlines
  • Ability to apply professional knowledge to analyze, understand refinery processes, and support resolution to technical
  • Self-motivated, works independentlu while being reciprocal in driving continuous improvement within the laboratory function
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, and the ability to build positive relationships with internal and external contacts in order to achieve the best results and deliver the most valueproblems
  • You enjoy sharing knowledge and feel rewarded by advancing the capabilities of others

Working Conditions

  • Working hours can be extended during periods of process unit upsets, equipment start-ups and/or other demands required in supporting uninterrupted laboratory operations
