Job Overview

Reporting to the chief inspector of our Commerce City refinery, you will manage the fixed equipment inspections for assigned units identifying opportunities for improvement. You will also be responsible for maintaining the mechanical integrity (MI) of fixed pressure retaining equipment.

Key Accountabilities

  • Ensure compliance with environmental health and safety policies/practices
  • Perform inspections as the role of “authorized inspector” as defined by the American petroleum institute (API) on different types of pressure retaining equipment, in order to establish its condition and its fitness for continued service in accordance with the Suncor Commerce City refinery MI system, Suncor standards, API and national board codes and standards, and state jurisdictions
  • Handle the fixed equipment inspection program for assigned areas
  • Ensure all equipment that is managed by the inspection department has a risk-based inspection evaluation and follows the correct procedure
  • Provide technical expertise required to assure accurate, thorough, viable and timely inspections
  • Coordinate inspection activities and handle inspection code quality assurance/quality control in assigned areas
  • Prepare, maintain and update area inspection records
  • Assure execution of inspection plans and results for equipment quality assurance
  • Ensure weld procedures and welder qualifications are correct and conform to applicable code requirements
  • Direct and supervise contract inspection and non-destructive examination (NDE) personnel during maintenance/turnarounds, specialty inspection jobs and on-stream inspection work

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • At least five years of related tank inspection experience
  • University degree, technical diploma or journeyman trade is preferred
  • Certified in API 653 required
  • Certified with the American Petroleum Institute (API) in 510, 570 codes preferred
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) is required

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) section V - NDE
  • Knowledge of American Welding Society (AWS) inspector requirements
  • Strong communication skills, with an ability to communicate effectively across our refinery groups and cross-functional team

Working Conditions

  • This position is salary based, located in Commerce City, working a Monday – Friday schedule with the expectation to work additional hours as needed
