Human Resources Business Partner

We have a great opportunity for you to join our Human Resources team at our Commerce City refinery which produces 100,000 barrels-per-day and is the only petroleum refinery in the area (and one of the largest in the Rocky Mountain region). In this operational role reporting to the Human Resources Team Leader, you will support both staff and unionized employees, and as a valued strategic partner, you will work closely with your client groups to deliver complete HR services of varying scope and complexity.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Advise and support on all employee and labor relations matters
  • Provide leadership in cultivating union/management relations
  • Liaise with internal labor relations and legal teams
  • Work with various levels of leadership on investigations, progressive discipline and grievances
  • Provide direction on collective agreement interpretation and administration
  • Work independently on business challenges and provide recommended solutions
  • Communicate, implement and provide mentorship on all HR programs and cycles to your respective client group
  • Facilitate and lead a number of sessions on HR topics, including performance management, succession planning and workforce planning
  • Champion innovation and continuous improvement as methods to improve HR and business performance
  • Liaise, collaborate and contract with both our central HR function and the business to deliver effective, world-class solutions in talent management, organizational effectiveness and learning and competency
  • Build strong working relationships within the strategic partner community

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Five years of proven Human Resources experience
  • Labor Relations experience in a complex and unionized environment
  • Advanced knowledge in all HR base business activities
  • Solid knowledge of employment and labor law
  • A post-secondary education in a related field (e.g. human resources, industrial relations or business)
  • Strong foundational skills in Change management, Collaboration, Consulting and Continuous Improvement
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, matched with the ability to negotiate and cultivate positive relationships with key partners
  • Alignment with our values of: safety above all else, respect, raise the bar, commitments matter and do the right thing

Preference for:

  • Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) or SHRM-CP / SHRM-SCP certification is preferred
  • Demonstrable knowledge in collective bargaining negotiation and arbitrations
  • Excellent facilitation and conflict resolution skills

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Commerce City Refinery Business Center, located at 5455 Brighton Blvd.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on the cyclical nature of the workload and during plant emergencies
  • Occasional travel to other site locations such as downtown Denver, Cheyenne, and Wyoming
  • Occasionally enter the plant facility as needed
  • You are able to occasionally work extended hours and weekends when necessary SAP:IND
