Reporting to the Instrumentation and Electrical Shop Supervisor, you will support process operations, maintenance, and engineering by maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing process control system equipment.

 

You will use your expertise to:

  • Perform calibrations, loop checking, troubleshooting, repair, and start-up on field devices
  • Provide technical assistance to other instrument personnel to improve competency levels
  • Collaborate with the reliability technicians to troubleshoot problems on vibrating equipment
  • See opportunities to improve the reliability of the refinery’s equipment
  • Utilize charts and data to conduct analyses and properly diagnose rotating equipment failures
  • Improve uptime production numbers by providing calibration accuracy and reliability
  • Exhibit ownership by responding to callouts, emergencies and provide major maintenance support
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the refinery business goals and how they relate to the structure
  • Utilize SAP to capture timekeeping, work orders, instrument reports, maintenance and reliability data, and fault codes trend analysis.
  • Take decisive action when a quick response is required or under conditions of uncertainty

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Five years of recent practical experience in the maintenance of industrial instrumentation and controls equipment (calibration of smart transmitters, PLC, DCS, AMS, rebuild control valves, etc.)
  • A valid Journeyperson Instrumentation Technician Certificate
  • A High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • An Associate's Degree (or technical equivalent) diploma in the Instrument and Controls field or Electronics Technology
  • Successful completion of a formal program in the field of Process Instrumentation through military service or crafts apprenticeship program
  • Current ISA (Formerly: Instrument Society of America) CCST Certification Level I (or equivalent)
  • A zero-tolerance for shortcuts, and if the procedure is incorrect, you fix it
  • Alignment with our values of: safety above all else, respect, raise the bar, commitments matter and do the right thing

Preference for:

  • Knowledge of low voltage distribution systems, DCS control system operation and configuration, PLC operation/programming, electrical/instrument control device settings and calibrations, reading and interpreting circuit and process and instrumentation diagrams
  • The drive to conduct work effectively when obstacles prevent planned work from being conducted
  • The ability to ask for input from others and incorporate into decisions
  • The ability to anticipate potential problems and check for out-of-the-ordinary conditions, as well as having a strong sense of accountability
  • Demonstrated commitment to the environment and safe work practices, with a continuous improvement mindset and a strong work ethic
  • Interpersonal communication and collaboration skills that enables you to build strong, positive relationships with diverse groups to achieve the best results

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Commerce City refinery, located at 5455 Brighton Blvd.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
  • This is a union represented position under USW 12-477
  • You will be required to perform some heavy lifting, use ladders and work on elevated work sites such as scaffolds and towers with the ability to perform in a variety of different environments both indoor and outdoor as well as within confined spaces
