If you are an instrumentation technician who is passionate about safety, building positive relationships, problem solving, and you have strong mechanical aptitude, then look no further! We have a perfect opportunity at our Commerce City refinery, which is the largest refinery in the Rocky Mountain region and the only petroleum refinery in Colorado. You will support process operations, maintenance, and engineering by maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing process control system equipment.

 You will use your expertise to:

  • Perform calibrations, loop checking, troubleshooting, repair, and start-up on field devices
  • Provide technical assistance to other instrument personnel in order to improve competency levels
  • Collaborate with our reliability technicians to troubleshoot problems on vibrating equipment
  • Find opportunities to improve the reliability of the refinery’s equipment
  • Utilize charts and data to conduct analysis and properly diagnose rotating equipment failures
  • Improve uptime production numbers by providing calibration accuracy and reliability
  • Exhibit ownership by responding to callouts and emergencies and providing major maintenance support
  • Understand the refinery business goals and how they relate to the structure
  • Utilize SAP to capture timekeeping, work orders, instrument reports, maintenance and reliability data, and fault codes trend analysis
  • Take decisive action when a quick response is required or under conditions of uncertainty

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • A High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • A zero-tolerance for shortcuts, and if the procedure is incorrect, you fix it
  • The ability to anticipate potential problems and check for out-of-the-ordinary conditions, and you have a strong sense of accountability
  • A demonstrated commitment to the environment and safe work practices, and you apply a continuous improvement mindset and strong work ethic
  • Interpersonal communication and collaboration skills that enables you to build strong, positive relationships with diverse groups to achieve the best results
  • The drive to conduct work effectively when obstacles prevent planned work from being conducted
  • Alignment with our values: safety above all else, stronger together, operational discipline, curiosity and lifelong learning, and act with integrity

Preference for:

  • Five years of recent, practical experience in the maintenance of industrial instrumentation and controls equipment (e.g. calibration of smart transmitters, PLC, DCS, AMS, rebuilding control valves, etc.)
  • An Associate's Degree (or technical equivalent) diploma in the Instrument and Controls field or Electronics Technology
  • Current ISA (Formerly: Instrument Society of America) CCST Certification Level I, or equivalent
  • Knowledge of low voltage distribution systems, DCS control system operation and configuration, PLC operation/programming, electrical/instrument control device settings and calibrations, reading and interpreting circuit, process and instrumentation diagrams

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Denver Refinery Business Center, located at 5455 Brighton Blvd.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, 5-8 hour shifts Monday through Friday OR  4-10 hour shifts Monday through Thursday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
  • This is a union represented position under USW 12-477
  • You will be required to perform some heavy lifting, use ladders and work on elevated work sites such as scaffolds and towers with the ability to perform in a variety of different environments both indoor and outdoor as well as within confined spaces
  • This position is safety sensitive
  • Relocation support will be provided
