Terminal Supervisor

In this role you will be accountable for the safe and reliable operation of the Commerce City West Products and Crude Truck Distribution terminals including efficient receipt, storage, handling and loading of refined products in a dynamic 24/7/365 operating environment.


You will use your expertise to:

  • Ensure worksite safety, regulatory compliance and reliable operations while meeting operating budget targets
  • Supervise five terminal operators to maintain operating efficiency and effectiveness
  • Manage a collection of resident and non-resident contractors responsible for site maintenance execution and site security
  • Manage an operating expense budget of $1.6 million
  • Coordinate with municipal services and key partners for emergency preparedness and response
  • Build positive relationships and engage in external local partner relations
  • Oversee site security, site inspections in addition to our procedure development and review process
  • Develop and review standard operating procedures to ensure facility equipment and operational reliability while maintaining product quality
  • Schedule, plan and lead safety initiatives at the site supporting downstream and enterprise initiatives
  • Align with our Downstream Operational Excellence Management System (OEMS) requirements as well as manage key performance indicators
  • Perform site incident reporting and investigations with a continuous improvement mindset

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Eight years of industry experience in Refining, Pipeline, Terminal Operations or other related experience
  • Two years of strong non-authoritative leadership or direct supervisory experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • A High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • A valid driver’s licence with a driving record acceptable to Suncor
  • Alignment with our values of: safety above all else, respect, raise the bar, commitments matter and do the right thing

Preference for:

  • A post-secondary education
  • An understanding of Department of Transportation (DOT) rules and regulations as well as familiarity with terminal management systems
  • Working knowledge of inventory reconciliation process and rack-forward business experience
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as the ability to build strong positive relationships with diverse groups both internally and externally in order to achieve the best results and deliver the most value
  • A highly motivated self-starter, who is able to make decisions with integrity, resolve conflict in a timely and effective manner and support company objectives and policies
  • The ability to hold others accountable while fostering a positive work environment  

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our West Rack Terminal office in Commerce City, Colorado
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs as well as on call support
  • You thrive in a dynamic environment with multiple priorities, challenging demands, and strict deadlines while contending with uncontrollable factors such as weather, equipment breakdowns, and product supply
  • You are confident in your ability to provide quick guidance and / or resolution to urgent operational issues
  • You are expected to inspect the outdoor facilities regularly year round while wearing full personal protective equipment
  • Occasional travel to the downtown Denver business office and other operational facilities to meet with supervisors and other work units to deal with ongoing or emerging issues
