Turnaround Execution

 multiple positions, salary ranges from $80,000 to $120,000 (dependent on role and experience)

In these fast-paced roles, you will be an integral member of our maintenance and reliability group. Join our team of highly motivated professionals to bring the Turnaround (TA) function to the next level!


You will use your expertise to:

  • Drive delivery of turnaround performance based on early identification and resolution of risks, challenges and issues to meet cost and schedule commitments
  • Lead, Coordinate, or Support execution work of a team of 1000+ personnel throughout the turnaround execution
  • Work with contractors (with contract values up to $50M) supporting turnaround events
  • Execute TAs within established key performance indicators in the areas of: Environment, Health and Safety (EHS), schedule and budget adherence, quality, plant performance post start-up
  • Provide guidance and make recommendations to leaders
  • Provide input into planning, scheduling and execution activities through input into integrations with Operations, the Unit and contractors as part of the scope development, planning packages and detailed shutdown and start up plans and schedules
  • Collaborate with contractors and operations to identify where potential problems or difficulties (such gas emissions, flooding, spills, odors, asbestos removal etc) are likely to be encountered and apply the appropriate corrective solutions to achieve positive outcomes
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of turnaround planning processes, standards and procedures, and scheduling as well as to the turnaround goals and objectives
  • Lead or support operational excellence initiatives
  • Interpret scheduling policy and collective bargaining agreement language to ensure compliance where required
  • Develop and execute against the Turnaround Execution Manual
  • Support the development of accurate work scopes
  • Drive Suncor and Contractor safety and quality and participate in safety program development


We’d like to review your application if you have…
Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Previous working experience planning and executing major maintenance projects
  • Hands on construction or maintenance experience
  • 3+ years of experience in a related turnaround role 
  • A High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record
  • Experience working with multiple different trades and craft
  • Previous experience working with technical documents including P&IDs, as Built, etc.
  • Ability to influence functional groups and external contractors
  • Alignment with our values: safety above all else, stronger together, operational discipline, curiosity and lifelong learning, and act with integrity

Preference for:

  • Project Management training or certifications
  • Experience with MS Office, Primavera, and SAP
  • Working knowledge of refinery operations or experience with heavy oil, steam generation
  • Previous experience in Plant Commissioning, Start-up and Shut-down

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Commerce City Refinery, located at 5455 Brighton Blvd.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
