Supervisor, Terminal

Job Overview

Reporting to the manager, terminal operations, you will oversee the safe and efficient operation of our Metro Depot distribution terminal, which stores, handles, loads and transports refined products in a dynamic 7/24/365 operating environment.

Key Accountabilities

  • Ensure worksite safety, security, regulatory compliance, and product quality
  • Supervise a team of terminal operators while ensuring training needs are reviewed and met to maintain operating efficiency and effectiveness
  • Lead non-resident contractors who are responsible for site maintenance
  • Manage a multi-million dollar operating expense budget and meet budget targets
  • Perform site inspections to oversee plant equipment, operational reliability and manage applicable key performance indicators
  • Coordinate with municipal services and other external partners for emergency preparedness and response
  • Develop and review standard operating procedures and identify and nominate capital projects to ensure facility equipment and operational reliability meets product supply requirements
  • Schedule, plan and lead safety initiatives at the site
  • Conduct incident investigation and applicable reporting
  • Perform daily administrative duties, such as payroll, accounts payable and ordering office supplies

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • Experience working in an operational leadership position
  • Experience in operations or maintenance in a plant or terminal environment
  • Experience in petroleum terminal operations, terminal equipment and systems, emergency response, inventory reconciliation, and/or petroleum transport operations is preferred
  • College diploma in technology or bachelor degree in engineering is preferred
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Possess a valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record  

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong leadership and social skills required for good communication with interoffice and terminal staff, customers, supply partners, and external community organizations
  • Knowledge of legislative requirements in keeping with the petroleum logistics industry, such as Transport Canada (especially Transportation of Dangerous Goods), Canadian Fuels Association, Measurement Canada, Environment Canada, Liquid Fuels Handling Code, and Fire Code
  • Deep understanding of finance and budget/cost control processes
  • You constantly ask what could go wrong and check for out-of-the-ordinary conditions and learn to anticipate potential problems, while demonstrating conflict resolution skills and taking action the either arrest or exploit the situation.
  • You hold others accountable, and expect others to do the same while fostering a positive work environment and demonstrating the ability to manage a salaried workforce and labour relations issues

Working Conditions

  • This position has been identified as safety sensitive
  • You will be located at 1138 Finch Ave W, North York, Ontario at our Metro Depot terminal office
  • You are responsible for overseeing an operating plant in an outdoor, all-weather industrial facility and will be expected to inspect the outdoor facilities regularly while wearing full personal protective equipment
  • You are expected to resolve issues 24/7, and operational needs or emergencies may require you to travel to the terminal site in a timely manner outside of normal business hours
  • You will occasionally travel to our Mississauga office and other operational facilities to meet with supervisors, other work units and deal with ongoing or emerging issues
