You will use your expertise to:

  • Become familiar with the test procedures and analytical techniques used.
  • Develop a test plan to achieve the specific part of the assigned project activity. Tests will be performed in bench scale experiments. Travelling to the commercial plant for testing may be required. 
  • Perform one or more of: calculations, modeling, experiments, lab analyses and data analyses.
  • Document the results in research progress reports and present the results / findings in a technical forum, as appropriate. 
  • Work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Provide support to other bitumen production or processing activities, if required.

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Engineering, majoring in Chemical, or other relevant undergraduate degree and returning to full-time studies after the work term
  • Strong computer skills in Matlab, Excel, Word and Powerpoint

Preference for:

  • Well-developed experimental and technical writing skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent problem solving skills and learning abilities
  • Knowledge and experience in oil sands and bitumen extraction or upgrading would be an asset
  • Mechanical aptitude for assembly of test equipment would be an asset

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

Edmonton:

  • You will work out of the Research and Development office, located at 9421-17 Ave NW
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
  • Available for an 8 or 12 month term starting May 2022
