Process Operator

You will report to the Shift Supervisor and will be a committed member of an operating crew that safely monitors all processes and equipment within the assigned process unit at our Edmonton refinery.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Learn all operating units within the assigned area of the facility and progress in increasing levels of responsibility at the site
  • Respond to emergencies, ensuring that established procedures are followed
  • Perform routine operating tasks, such as monitoring levels, temperatures and pressures
  • Monitor the operating area for abnormal mechanical or process-related conditions
  • Perform basic troubleshooting
  • Perform plant operation duties for smooth and efficient operations and ensure strong communication and collaboration exists between shift changes
  • Assist in the preparation of equipment for maintenance
  • Write work notifications for equipment and unit repairs
  • Work on a dynamic crew covering a qualified post within an operating unit
  • Report and appropriately flag all plant-related issues beyond your scope to your leader
  • Maintain housekeeping at high level to ensure a safe work environment duties
  • Perform product sampling as required

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • A High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Proven mechanical aptitude to allow hands-on operation of plant equipment, including pumps, compressors and heaters
  • A deep understanding of workplace hazardous materials information systems (WHMIS) and occupational health and safety (OH&S) regulations
  • Alignment with our values of: safety above all else, respect, raise the bar, commitments matter and do the right thing

Preference for:

  • A Chemical Engineering technology diploma or equivalent qualification and/or work experience
  • Experience within the Oil and Gas industry
  • Problem solvers who constantly ask what could go wrong and check for out-of-the-ordinary conditions and learn to anticipate potential problems
  • A creative work style with an ability to handle multiple priorities, challenging demands and function positively in a dynamic work environment
  • Exceptional communication, analytical, troubleshooting and decision-making skills with the ability to readily collaborate with diverse groups
  • The ability to make decisions with integrity in order to achieve the best results and deliver the most value

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Edmonton refinery in Sherwood Park, located at 801 Petroleum Way
  • This position is safety sensitive
  • It is a requirement to successfully complete industrial firefighter first responder training and successfully complete the area's progression training curriculum
  • The shift schedule is a four days on/five days off/five days on/four days off/five days on/five days off rotation (12-hour shifts)
  • You will be required to perform some heavy lifting, use ladders and work on elevated work sites such as scaffolds and towers with the ability to perform in a variety of different environments both indoor and outdoor as well as within confined spaces
  • You are comfortable using a self-contained breathing apparatus
