Senior Environmental Health and Safety Advisor

You will use your expertise to:

  • Analyze project risk portfolio and perform hazard assessments to advise appropriate control measures with the right follow-up verification 
  • Work with site leaders to support the implementation and sustainment of major projects’ EH&S programs, regional standards, safe work practices, orientations, campaigns, etc.
  • Interpret and apply EH&S regulations that govern the projects’ specific work scope to help leaders makes the right decision
  • Perform audits, self-assessments and help leaders understand these processes (e.g., serious injury fatality (SIF) control verifications, field level hazard assessment audits, safety observations, inspections, etc.).
  • Participate in the EH&S responsibilities required within the contractor management process
  • Perform incident root cause analysis and coach incident owners accordingly, helping  assign corrective actions

We’d like to review your application if you have…

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Completed post-secondary education in a relevant application within Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)/Environment, or a trade certificate/experience with an OHS/Environment certificate
  • Six years of experience with EH&S related to industrial work
  • Proven knowledge of large-scale oil and gas industrial hazards and controls in the context of the applicable EH&S legislation
  • Proven your ability to perform incident investigations, root cause analysis, hazard assessments, audits, field assessments and interact well with regulators
  • Demonstrated communication skills, both oral and written, as well as strong analytical and change management skills
  • Strong initiative and perform well with limited supervision, and also have high emotional intelligence and self-awareness, with the ability to influence others
  • Experience in, or a facilitator of, root cause analysis application

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our camp-based Fort Hills mining site, located in Alberta’s Athabasca region (located 90 kilometres north of Fort McMurray, Alberta), or our Base Plant Mine in Fort McMurray, Alberta, or our Firebag location, which is our largest in situ operation and one of the largest in the world (and located 120 km northeast of Fort McMurray, Alberta)
  • The shift schedule is an eight days on / six days off rotation; 10-hour shifts
